GE HealthCare is seeking a Senior Plant Engineer to be the primary engineering representative from project launch to closeout. In this customer-facing role, you will lead technical solutions for large, complex substation projects, serving as a mentor to other engineers and supporting business proposals.
What You'll Do
- Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of substations and balance of plant for large, complex projects.
- Execute the full HV physical outdoor design of substation works, including power single line drawings, plan and elevation drawings, and general arrangement layouts.
- Direct engineers and designers, coordinating with sourcing and project teams to meet specifications, cost, and schedule.
- Serve as the single point of contact for technical issues for the customer and project manager.
- Accountable for engineering activities including schedule development, design safety, project design reviews, risk management, and quality control.
- Manage the combined project BOM & MDL, write/review High Voltage equipment technical specifications, and support sourcing.
- Oversee or perform related studies, calculations, and development of bills of material.
- Accountable with the Project Engineering Director for performance of engineering subcontractors.
- Support proposals and tenders for HVDC or substation projects, including estimating man hours and application of major equipment.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE strongly preferred).
- Professional Engineering license in the United States (or plan to obtain one within a certain period).
- Minimum of 10 years experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering for electric utilities and renewable energy power plants.
- Experience as an Electrical Project Engineer in substation applications, including primary (outdoor) substation design and required studies.
- Able and willing to travel 20% including international travel.
Nice to Have
- In-depth experience applying High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC), local Grid Codes, and related equipment.
- Ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
- Strong knowledge of contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation-related structural design requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing, DC system component selection, transformer and circuit breaker selection, cable selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.
Team & Environment
You will lead other engineers and designers, and interface with a cross-functional team including the Project Engineering Director, discipline PEMs, Designers, CAD Operators, Project Managers, and support organizations.

- Compensation: $133,400.00 - $178,000.00 USD Annual, plus performance bonus eligibility.
