About the Role

DeepL is hiring a Senior People Business Partner - Japan to support all departments across the APJ region. You will serve as the primary People contact and trusted advisor for local leaders, managers, and employees at our Japan location, blending hands-on partnership with strategic project ownership.

What You'll Do

  • Build strong and trusted partnerships across the region, working closely with leaders and managers in Japan to shape organizational strategy, direction, and design.
  • Localise and execute the People Strategy for Japan, driving fit-for-purpose initiatives that ensure cultural relevance and compliance with Japanese statutory requirements.
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle for Japan-based employees, including local onboarding, probation, performance improvement plans (PIPs), off-boarding, and leave management.
  • Analyze and report on Japan-specific People data to provide managers with insights that inform local decision-making.
  • Guide Japan leaders through organizational change management, helping to shape structure, culture, and processes within the region.
  • Assist in identifying and preparing future leaders within Japan to ensure continuity in key roles.
  • Drive action planning and initiatives tailored to Japan, aimed at improving engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Collaborate with finance and business leaders to anticipate future workforce needs across Japan.
  • Oversee and manage complex Employee Relations cases in Japan, ensuring compliance with local employment law and best practices.
  • Partner with Centres of Excellence teams, providing proactive feedback to enhance the impact and delivery of programs.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience as a People Business Partner supporting a multi-functional client group in a fast-paced, high-change, international scale-up environment in Japan.
  • In-depth knowledge of Japanese employment legislation and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven capability to independently manage and resolve complex, high-volume Employee Relations cases in Japan across different functions and management levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Team & Environment

You will be part of a team of People Business Partners supporting areas across Go-To-Market (GTM) and dedicated regional roles in APJ.
