Twilio is looking for a Senior Manager, Technical Revenue Accounting to lead the evaluation and implementation of our global revenue recognition policy. In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert for ASC 606, partnering across functions to align business strategy with compliant accounting practices and a scalable operational framework.
What You'll Do
- Manage and lead a team responsible for technical accounting assessments of complex customer contracts, including multi-element arrangements, SaaS, usage-based pricing, and variable consideration.
- Own and maintain the global revenue accounting policy, including memos and position papers under ASC 606.
- Own and maintain the process for determining and updating Stand-Alone Selling Pricing (SSP), including periodic refreshes and quantitative analysis.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members and partner groups on technical revenue matters.
- Lead cross-functional partnerships with Sales, Legal, and Product and Pricing teams on contract and pricing structure implications.
- Serve as the primary partner with SEC/Technical Accounting, Internal Audit, and external auditors.
- Oversee alignment with operational revenue accounting’s use of ERP tooling for contract implementation and periodic review of assumptions.
- Oversee the technical revenue accounting function’s monthly close, including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and SEC reporting disclosures.
- Own and maintain the SOX control environment over contract review and non-operational revenue accounting processes.
- Lead collaboration with IT and business partners to design and enhance revenue automation tools for scalable system configuration.
- Lead revenue accounting’s assessment for new product launches, pricing model changes, and other go-to-market initiatives.
- Serve as the expert and end-to-end owner for technical revenue accounting with a forward-thinking vision to mitigate risk and drive efficiency.
- Lead special projects and company-wide initiatives as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive technical accounting experience within a public accounting firm and a large, fast-paced corporate environment.
- 6+ years of progressive people management experience.
- Expert technical knowledge of ASC 606 and US GAAP, especially in SaaS and usage-based revenue models.
- Proven communication skills to write and present complex technical accounting concepts to audiences of varying expertise.
- Expert at designing and implementing internal controls based on a thorough grasp of fact patterns and risks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret standards for complex, scalable scenarios.
- Proven ability to build, nurture, and influence effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
- A trusted leader and strategic thinker with intense curiosity and a proven ability to take initiative on complex issues.
Nice to Have
- CPA or equivalent certification.
- 5+ years of Big 4 public accounting experience.
- Experience in technical revenue accounting at high-growth technology and/or publicly traded companies.
- Experience with Oracle RMCS and Zuora Revenue.
