Deel is looking for a Senior Manager, Payroll, EMEA/APAC to lead our internal payroll and payments team for the region. You will ensure accurate, on-time global payroll processing, drive operational efficiency, and manage compliance while scaling our operations as we grow. This role is central to our mission of building the infrastructure for the future of work.
What You'll Do
- Ensure accurate, on-time payroll and contractor payments within your assigned region in accordance with company policies and local regulations.
- Administer and deliver end-to-end payroll operations for the region, leveraging Deel global payroll as a managed service provider.
- Coordinate and deliver work to migrate and implement new legal entities into our payroll system of record.
- Drive operational effectiveness by implementing best practices, process reviews, automation, and improvements as a payroll leadership team member.
- Hire, manage, and develop our internal payroll team for the region, focusing on performance, engagement, training, and growth opportunities.
- Manage payroll compliance, audits, and tax inquiries across assigned countries, partnering with Finance, Tax, Legal, and EOR teams.
- Review and recommend areas for automation to reduce cycle time and costs in data and payment processing.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert and process owner for payroll activities and inquiries.
- Ensure accuracy of payroll financial information and compliance with SOX and other internal audit controls.
- Oversee internal ticketing systems and manage payroll questions and inquiries.
- Analyze payroll metrics and develop scalable recommendations as we grow from 5,000 to 10,000+ team members.
- Drive seamless adoption of payroll tools and partner to build the best payroll product for enterprise clients.
- Participate in acquisitions and migrations, ensuring smooth implementation and user experience.
- Liaise with local government authorities and vendors as required.
- Lead change management efforts, partnering with cross-functional teams to implement new processes and tools.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 10 years experience in payroll processing, operations, and management within a global, multinational company.
- Strong background in US federal, state, and local payroll/taxation, plus international experience in key countries like the UK, Spain, Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Mexico, or Brazil.
- Experience in a hyper-growth, high-volume company, building from 0 to 1 and scaling from 1 to n for efficiency.
- Expertise in payroll taxation, compliance reporting, audits, and negotiations.
- Strong project management experience to build, manage, drive, and iterate processes at scale.
- Experience in payroll product and services implementation, process automation, and implementing global best practices.
- Experience managing a globally dispersed, remote team across multiple time zones.
- Experience in M&A due diligence, implementing global acquisitions, and harmonizing payroll tools and policies.
- Experience with new country setups, including new entities and processing requirements.
- A passion for workflows, efficiency, and consistency, paired with meticulous attention to detail.
- The ability to align company needs with payroll best practices and craft tailored frameworks.
- Discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive information.
- A proactive problem-solving mindset and experience driving large-scale implementations requiring process and change management.
