About the Role
The role involves leading the estimation function for renewable energy projects, providing accurate cost forecasts, managing bid strategies, and collaborating with engineering and project teams to support competitive project proposals.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of detailed cost estimates for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects
- Oversee the preparation of bid proposals from initial concept through final submission
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to align estimates with project designs
- Analyze historical project data to refine estimating models and improve accuracy
- Manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain reliable pricing
- Identify cost drivers and risks in project designs and recommend mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with technical specifications and contractual requirements in all estimates
- Develop and maintain standardized estimating templates and processes
- Support project pursuit decisions by providing timely and accurate cost projections
- Present estimation findings and bid strategies to senior management
- Monitor market trends affecting material and labor costs
- Lead estimating efforts during project negotiations and client discussions
- Train and mentor junior estimation staff
- Coordinate with external consultants and third-party vendors as needed
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and construction methods
- Ensure estimating documentation is complete and audit-ready
- Contribute to post-bid reviews to identify lessons learned
- Work closely with project controls to ensure alignment between estimates and budgets
- Support value engineering initiatives to optimize project costs
- Manage multiple bid timelines simultaneously under tight deadlines
