Rodeo FX is hiring a Senior Lookdev Artist - Temporary Contract

Responsibilities

  • Develop and perfect the visual appearance of 3D models using textures, shaders, and surface attributes to achieve lifelike results.
  • Ensure artistic and technical excellence in all delivered assets, meeting high production standards and fitting seamlessly into final sequences.
  • Collaborate with texturing, lighting, compositing, supervision, and production departments.
  • Support the creative and technical pipeline by contributing to workflow efficiency and goal achievement.
  • Build comprehensive material looks using textures, shaders, and validation lighting suited to project requirements.
  • Generate or improve textures to maintain visual and technical uniformity across assets.
  • Produce validation imagery such as turntables, AOVs, and benchmarks for review sessions.
  • Deliver reliable, lighting-compatible assets on schedule and in compliance with established specifications.
  • Suggest clear and effective visual solutions based on deep knowledge of materials and surface behavior.
  • Maintain visual continuity across texturing, shading, and lighting stages for all elements.
  • Achieve photorealism through careful attention to fine surface details and variation.
  • Analyze and enhance reference imagery using critical observation and artistic insight.
  • Design realistic, physically accurate shaders that are optimized for production use and pipeline integration.
  • Create, modify, or troubleshoot textures, including UVs, tiling, displacement, and color space, to support look development.
  • Construct clean, efficient asset setups that facilitate downstream lighting and compositing processes.
  • Quickly diagnose and resolve technical problems to prevent delays in production.
  • Coordinate with upstream and downstream teams to ensure asset consistency and smooth handoffs.
  • Work closely with lighting and compositing artists to align final rendered output.
  • Communicate technical specifications clearly regarding shading and texturing requirements.
  • Participate actively in daily reviews and incorporate feedback promptly.
  • Help improve workflows between texturing and look development teams.
  • Share expertise on materials, shading techniques, and advanced methods with colleagues.
  • Assist in developing tools, templates, and best practices to increase production efficiency.
  • Stay informed about advancements in rendering, shading, and texturing technologies.
