Role Overview
This is a part-time, fully remote position for a Senior Legal Counsel to serve as the central legal advisor for a top-tier Ethereum protocol by total value locked. You will provide strategic legal guidance across three core product lines: liquid staking, automated DeFi strategies, and a Visa-integrated spending card for crypto holders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead legal assessments for new protocol features and product updates, ensuring alignment with evolving technical and regulatory landscapes
- Advise on complex issues including non-custodial custody models, slashing penalties, Layer 2 network transitions, and decentralized governance
- Serve as the primary legal contact for internal teams, offering real-time input during product development cycles
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements—including partnerships, vendor contracts, liquidity arrangements, and preliminary deal frameworks
- Develop and maintain user-facing legal terms, disclosures, and compliance statements
- Ensure marketing and promotional content adheres to financial communications rules across key jurisdictions, including U.S. and EU frameworks
- Support employment-related legal matters such as contractor agreements, immigration compliance, and workforce classification
- Collaborate with compliance and product teams to clearly communicate risk in regulatory submissions and public materials
Qualifications
- 3–4 years of experience at a high-growth fintech company or a leading law firm with a focus on technology or blockchain
- 4–5 years of post-qualification experience in a legal practice or in-house role
- On-chain fluency: comfortable using block explorers, interpreting transaction data, and explaining crypto concepts to regulators
- Proven ability to assess risk in smart contract systems and decentralized architectures
- Efficient and pragmatic—skilled at identifying high-impact legal issues and prioritizing accordingly
- Mindset oriented toward solutions: capable of framing legal constraints as conditional pathways rather than roadblocks
Compensation & Work Environment
- Competitive hourly rate or retainer, with potential for token-based incentives
- Fully remote role with flexible scheduling, designed for high-performing fractional professionals
- Work alongside a global, remote-first team with opportunities for in-person collaboration across international offices
