Ethos is hiring a Senior Human Resources Business Partner

About the Role

BetterHelp is hiring a Senior Human Resources Business Partner to join our team via TensorOps. In this role, you will assess and anticipate HR-related needs, serving as a critical link between HR and upper management. You'll leverage strategic HR skills to develop solutions that align programs with business objectives, acting as both an employee champion and a change agent.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic business partnership and coaching to BetterHelp’s managers and leaders.
  • Develop and maintain an effective working knowledge of BetterHelp’s mid- and long-range plans, its culture, and its competition.
  • Meet regularly with various department heads to assess and advise on current employee needs.
  • Work closely with management and employees to enhance working relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention.
  • Build strong relationships with key people in the client group by frequently connecting with them about their concerns and insights.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions) to enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Partner with our legal department as needed, maintaining in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to HR and employee management, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations as needed.
  • Analyze HR trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs, and processes.
  • Provide consultative advice related to business unit restructuring, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Assist in driving various HR initiatives: performance management, goal setting, merit reviews and employee career development.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years’ experience as an HR Business Partner.
  • 6+ years’ experience with management coaching.
  • Previous international exposure/assignment with ability to work across various cultures.
  • Demonstrable success designing and implementing performance management and employee relations programs.
  • A people-person mindset, with a natural knack for building relationships and rapport at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience and effectiveness working with senior leaders and associates that are located remotely.
  • Ability to work in the US, to travel to our San Jose, California offices up to three times per year and to an additional company offsite.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide presentations in a productive, compelling manner.
  • Natural and effective coaching/mentoring style.
  • Deep understanding of HR functions, policies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of employment/labor law.
  • Demonstrated project management and change management skills.
  • The drive of a self-starter, with the ability to lead programs independently.
  • Business acumen and strong consultative skills.
  • Strong business ethics.

Nice to Have

  • Experience using Workday and Greenhouse.
  • Significant international experience supporting employees and leaders across multiple countries.
  • Hands-on experience using HR systems, automation, or AI-enabled tools to simplify workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve operational effectiveness.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to the Head of People.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary: $140,000 - $160,000
  • Remote work with regular in-person bonding experiences sponsored by the company.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Holistic perks program (including free therapy, employee wellness, and more).
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution.
  • The chance to build something that changes lives.
  • Any piece of hardware or software that will make you happy and productive.
  • An awesome community of co-workers.
