AECOM is hiring a Senior Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer

About the Role

This role involves leading geotechnical evaluations and dam safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and providing technical guidance on the performance and stability of dam structures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical assessments for dam safety and performance
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses for foundation stability and seismic response
  • Perform field inspections of dams and related infrastructure
  • Evaluate risks associated with dam structures and recommend mitigation measures
  • Prepare engineering reports and documentation for regulatory compliance
  • Support emergency action planning and incident response
  • Review design criteria for dam modifications and upgrades
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on project delivery
  • Provide technical expertise during construction and monitoring phases
  • Assist in the development of instrumentation and monitoring programs
  • Interpret geological and geotechnical data for site conditions
  • Lead peer reviews and design validation efforts
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards and safety protocols
  • Support forensic investigations following dam incidents
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to clients and stakeholders
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff
  • Contribute to proposals and project scoping activities
  • Oversee data collection and site investigation programs
  • Evaluate seepage, slope stability, and settlement behavior
  • Apply advanced numerical modeling techniques to simulate dam behavior
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies on compliance matters
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of dam safety guidelines and practices
  • Support asset management planning for aging infrastructure
  • Ensure quality control in technical deliverables
  • Promote innovation in dam monitoring and risk assessment methods

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in geotechnical engineering
  • Active PE license in multiple states
  • Experience with federal and state dam safety inspection programs
  • Familiarity with Bureau of Reclamation or USACE standards
  • Direct experience with concrete and embankment dams
  • Knowledge of climate resilience and extreme weather impacts on dams
  • Experience in litigation support or expert testimony
  • Leadership in professional engineering organizations
  • Published work in dam safety or geotechnical engineering journals
