Lead and develop a team of backend and platform engineers responsible for the systems that underpin core product offerings. You'll shape technical strategy, drive execution, and ensure the architecture remains robust, scalable, and secure as the platform evolves. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management in an environment that values deep understanding and operational rigor.
What You'll Do
- Manage and grow a team of engineers focused on backend services and platform infrastructure
- Drive planning, prioritization, and delivery with an emphasis on system reliability, scalability, and maintainability
- Define and guide the evolution of backend architecture, APIs, and shared services
- Translate product requirements into sound technical designs in collaboration with product and frontend teams
- Work with data science to integrate decisioning models into production workflows and APIs
- Partner with infrastructure teams to enhance observability, developer experience, and system resilience
- Support incident response and ensure services meet defined SLAs
- Champion code quality, testing practices, and operational excellence across the team
- Recruit, mentor, and grow engineering talent while upholding high standards
- Contribute directly to code and problem-solving when needed
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience managing backend or platform engineering teams
- Proven track record as a senior or staff-level backend engineer
- Strong experience designing and building API-driven systems using Golang, Python, or similar languages
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and system design principles
- Experience owning and evolving backend architecture in production environments
- History of delivering complex, customer-facing or platform-level systems
- Ability to lead technical discussions and engage with implementation details
- Experience in fast-moving, growth-stage environments such as startups
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building internal platforms, shared services, or developer tooling
- Familiarity with data-intensive systems, OpenSearch, or risk and decisioning platforms
- Background in fintech or regulated industries
Technology Environment
Stack includes Golang, Python, PostgreSQL (RDS), Docker, OpenSearch, and AWS services such as Lambda and Cognito. Frontend work uses React.

Work Model
This is a hybrid role open to candidates based in the US, with remote flexibility and optional proximity to offices in Austin, San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles, or Chicago. Roles in India are based primarily in Gurugram. The engineering team in India operates mainly from the office location.
Compensation
Salary range: $200,000 – $240,000 per year, plus equity. Exact compensation will vary based on location, experience, and role level.
