You will directly manage a team of 6–12 engineers, ensuring high-quality delivery, fostering professional growth, and maintaining strong cross-functional collaboration. As a key member of the engineering leadership team, you will influence long-term technical strategy, improve team effectiveness, and uphold a culture of accountability, innovation, and inclusion. This position requires a balance of deep technical understanding, strong communication skills, and proven experience in managing complex delivery in regulated, high-stakes environments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and high-quality delivery by monitoring project progress, identifying roadblocks early, and escalating risks with actionable recommendations.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies tailored to team needs, including sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and reviews.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to track performance, career goals, and development needs.
  • Manage full-cycle performance processes, including developing high performers and addressing underperformance with clear documentation.
  • Participate in hiring by sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and contributing to offer decisions with well-reasoned justifications.
  • Support quarterly and long-term planning by assessing team capacity, identifying dependencies, and highlighting sequencing risks.
  • Maintain technical visibility through pull request reviews, architecture discussions, and escalation of critical technical issues.
  • Enforce quality standards in code reviews, testing, documentation, and incident follow-up.
  • Collaborate with product and project managers to align on priorities and communicate realistic team capacity.
  • Work with engineering leadership on team structure, headcount, career leveling, and defining excellence for individual contributors.
  • Identify systemic engineering challenges across teams and lead initiatives to improve processes, tooling, and onboarding.
  • Refine hiring practices by shaping interview design, calibration, and debrief processes to ensure consistency.
  • Advocate for engineering investments such as improved CI/CD pipelines and developer tools by presenting impact and cost analysis.
  • Communicate technical constraints clearly to non-technical stakeholders to inform business decisions without oversimplification.
  • Model core cultural values including intellectual honesty, direct communication, accountability, and genuine support for team members.

Requirements

  • At least four years of experience managing software engineering teams of five or more engineers in a product-focused environment.
  • Professional background as a software engineer with strong judgment about code quality, system complexity, and technical risk.
  • Experience using AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code in daily workflows, aligned with modern agentic engineering practices.
  • Proven success in advancing engineers' careers, with specific examples of identifying skill gaps and guiding growth.
  • Experience managing multi-quarter delivery commitments, including tracking, communication, and course correction when plans change.
  • Strong technical decision-making ability, particularly in architecture reviews and identifying flawed reasoning behind technical choices.
  • Prior experience leading teams building security-critical, reliability-critical, or infrastructure-related systems.
  • Demonstrated success managing distributed teams in a remote-first setting.
  • Excellent written communication skills, essential for leadership in a fully remote organization.
  • Must have authorization to work in the US; comprehensive background checks are required for all hires.
