The Indiana Department of Correction and Madison State Hospital are seeking Seasonal Natural Resources Workers to perform a variety of roles at the Crosley Fish & Wildlife Area in southeastern Indiana. You'll join a team dedicated to managing and conserving public natural resources, contributing directly to the state's environmental stewardship efforts.
What You'll Do
- Perform duties related to the survey, biological monitoring, or control of property natural resources.
- Assist with invasive species control, natural area restoration, trail maintenance, timber marking, and facility upkeep.
- Maintain and repair property buildings, grounds, and facilities, including landscaping, carpentry, and plumbing.
- Support property staff with administrative duties such as inventory, reporting, and budgeting.
- Provide quality customer service, answer visitor inquiries, and assist with property operations.
- Implement habitat restoration and management plans for native plant and animal communities.
- Assist with wildlife and vegetation surveys, food plot plans, and fish and wildlife research.
- Collect biological data from fish species, interview anglers, and enter information into relevant systems.
- Monitor shooting range activities and provide education on safe gun handling.
What We're Looking For
- A high school diploma, GED, or one (1) year of work experience.
- Ability to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in varied environments, including office, field, rugged terrain, and adverse weather.
- Ability to work around potentially dangerous heavy equipment like tractors and mowers.
Nice to Have
- Completion of some college coursework in wildlife management, natural resources, biology, ecology, or forestry.
- Ability to understand and apply basic biological principles, plant identification, and invasive plant management techniques.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and sustain periods of strenuous physical activity.
- Ability to carry out assignments with general instruction and limited supervision.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Experience working with DOC work release crews.
Benefits & Compensation
- This is a seasonal, non-benefitted position with an hourly wage starting at $12.25/hour.
- The role is limited to 180 working days in an eleven-month continuous period.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located at the Crosley Fish & Wildlife Area in southeastern Indiana.
