We are looking for Seasonal Ecologists to support field-based ecological surveys throughout the UK during peak activity periods. In this role, you will play a key part in gathering high-quality environmental data that informs conservation and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out field surveys for protected species such as bats, birds, badgers, and great crested newts, along with habitat and botanical assessments using standardized methods like UKHAB and NVC.
- Record and process field data accurately, using appropriate software tools and scientific protocols.
- Maintain detailed field notes, complete survey forms, and assist in drafting preliminary findings.
- Operate field equipment responsibly and follow all health and safety procedures during site visits.
- Work collaboratively with ecologists and project leads, contributing to project timelines and data integrity.
- Travel to various locations, including rural and remote areas, often working early mornings, evenings, or weekends to meet seasonal survey demands.
Qualifications and Skills
- Pursuing or holding a degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in field survey techniques and confident identification of UK plant and animal species.
- Familiarity with wildlife protection laws and standard ecological assessment practices.
- Strong attention to detail, observational ability, and capability to work both independently and in teams outdoors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for data handling and reporting.
- Full UK driving license and reliable vehicle access for site travel.
Preferred Experience
- Holding or working toward protected species survey licenses (e.g., for bats or great crested newts).
- Experience using GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial data support.
