The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is looking for a Scientific Officer to join its Metabolomics Core Facility (MCF) in Heidelberg. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting both routine user analyses and the development of new metabolomics workflows, collaborating closely with researchers from across the organization.
What You'll Do
- Interact with users to advise on experimental design and sampling for metabolomics and lipidomics studies.
- Perform sample preparation and analyte extraction from diverse sample types, including cells, bacteria, tissues, and biofluids.
- Manage incoming samples, metabolite standards, lipid standards, and spectral libraries.
- Prepare and perform LC-MS experiments, including mobile phase preparation, basic system maintenance, and data acquisition.
- Analyze metabolomics data and discuss the results directly with users.
What We're Looking For
- An appropriate undergraduate or advanced degree in analytical sciences, chemistry, or a related discipline (Bachelor´s / Master´s / Ph.D.) or equivalent experience.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in mass spectrometry or an analytical laboratory setting, preferably with LC-MS.
- Experience with diverse sample types (e.g., cells, bacteria, tissues, biofluids) and the analysis of metabolomics results.
- Strong communication skills in English and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
Nice to Have
- A background in computational biology, coding, or data sciences.
- Experience working in a service facility environment.
- Experience or interest in learning about data processing for targeted or untargeted metabolomics datasets.
