Role Overview
As a Risk Control Specialist based in Houston, you will perform comprehensive on-site evaluations of current and prospective policyholders’ operations, focusing on identifying and analyzing risk exposures. Your expertise will guide the development of targeted recommendations to reduce losses and improve safety across diverse industries, including specialized sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed risk control inspections at client sites and deliver thorough reports outlining findings, existing safeguards, and recommended improvements
- Advise policyholders on operational risks, claims patterns, and hazard mitigation strategies tailored to their specific coverages
- Customize risk management solutions based on client needs, addressing key loss drivers and regulatory compliance
- Serve as a technical authority within a specialized risk domain, offering guidance to peers and collaborating with subject matter experts on complex cases
- Share critical insights with underwriting, sales, and claims teams to inform policy decisions and renewal strategies
- Deliver training sessions and on-site loss prevention assessments for both existing and potential accounts
- Identify clients who would benefit from ongoing or short-term risk services and develop appropriate service plans
- Present risk control capabilities to agents and industry groups to promote service awareness
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and agency partners
- Document all services and findings in formal reports, ensuring clarity and actionable outcomes
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, industrial hygiene, fire protection, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience may be considered. Candidates must have at least five years of experience in risk assessment, safety management, or a similar role.
Essential skills include strong analytical abilities, familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and NFPA standards, and a solid understanding of industrial, construction, fire, and commercial vehicle safety practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Applicants must be able to travel locally and possess a valid driver’s license meeting company guidelines. Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) are valued but not required.
