About the Role
The residential counselor plays a key role in supporting young people in a stable housing program by offering daily guidance, crisis intervention, and emotional support. This position emphasizes safety, personal growth, and connection to services while fostering a respectful and healing-centered environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide consistent emotional and practical support to youth in residential care
- Assist residents with daily living activities and personal development goals
- Conduct regular wellness checks and document individual progress
- Respond to crises with de-escalation techniques and appropriate protocols
- Maintain a safe and respectful living environment for all residents
- Facilitate group activities focused on life skills and community building
- Collaborate with case managers to support service plans
- Monitor and enforce program rules and behavioral expectations
- Transport youth to appointments and community resources as needed
- Complete accurate and timely records and reports
- Attend team meetings and case conferences regularly
- Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours support
- Support residents in developing healthy routines and coping strategies
- Model positive communication and conflict resolution
- Engage youth in goal-setting and progress reviews
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions
- Promote harm reduction and trauma-informed practices
- Assist with meal preparation and household management tasks
- Coordinate with external agencies and healthcare providers
- Encourage educational and employment engagement
- Support youth during transitions to independent living
- Complete required trainings on safety, compliance, and youth development
- Report safety concerns or policy violations promptly
- Foster an inclusive and supportive community atmosphere
- Adhere to organizational policies and regulatory requirements
