About the Role

The specialist manages incoming referral requests, collaborates with clinical and administrative staff, and ensures compliance with referral protocols to facilitate efficient patient scheduling and care coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Process new patient referral requests across various medical specialties
  • Verify insurance and eligibility information for referred patients
  • Coordinate with providers to schedule timely appointments
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic system
  • Communicate referral status updates to referring and receiving providers
  • Resolve referral-related issues in collaboration with care teams
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational referral policies
  • Support timely documentation and authorization processes
  • Assist in streamlining referral workflows to improve patient access
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries about referral status
  • Collaborate with care coordinators and clinical staff
  • Track referral metrics and support quality improvement initiatives
  • Escalate complex cases to supervisors or appropriate departments
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with privacy standards
  • Participate in team meetings and operational training sessions
  • Assist in onboarding and training new referral team members
  • Support audits related to referral documentation and processing
  • Utilize multiple software systems for data entry and tracking
  • Follow standardized procedures for high-volume referral intake
  • Promote a patient-centered approach in all referral interactions
  • Adapt to changes in referral policies or system updates
  • Contribute to process improvement projects within the referral unit
  • Ensure timely follow-up on pending or incomplete referrals
  • Support patient navigation through the referral-to-appointment pathway
  • Maintain consistent communication with multidisciplinary teams
