About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing electrical installations and troubleshooting in underground environments, ensuring all work meets regulatory requirements and project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain underground power distribution systems
  • Interpret electrical schematics and blueprints accurately
  • Perform fault detection and repair on high-voltage circuits
  • Conduct routine inspections of underground electrical infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with provincial electrical codes and safety regulations
  • Use specialized tools and diagnostic equipment for cable splicing
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams on project execution
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs
  • Respond to emergency outages and perform urgent repairs
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance operations
  • Supervise apprentices when assigned to training roles
  • Adhere to site-specific safety protocols and hazard assessments
  • Test insulation resistance and circuit continuity
  • Install transformers, switchgear, and related components
  • Work in confined spaces with proper safety precautions
  • Manage cable routing and trenching coordination
  • Support commissioning of new underground electrical systems
  • Participate in pre-job safety meetings and planning sessions
  • Ensure proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems
  • Transport tools and equipment to remote job sites
  • Comply with environmental protection standards during work
  • Report equipment defects or safety concerns promptly
  • Assist in project closeout documentation
  • Follow company quality assurance procedures
  • Maintain certification and ongoing training records

Compensation

Competitive hourly wage based on experience and qualifications

Work Arrangement

On-site, full-time with potential for overtime

Work Environment

  • Field-based role with frequent travel to underground sites
  • Work may occur in tunnels, vaults, and subsurface enclosures
  • Exposure to damp, dark, and confined conditions
  • Shift work including evenings and weekends may be required
  • Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory

Tools and Equipment

  • Must provide basic hand tools and testing devices
  • Training provided on specialized underground equipment
  • Company vehicles available for site transportation
  • Access to cable locators and fault detection systems
  • Use of hydraulic splicing kits and insulation kits
