The City of Minneapolis is hiring a Public Works Financial Analyst to provide critical monitoring and evaluation of financial activities and operational performance for the Public Works department. This role offers business and project management support, with the current vacancy located within Public Works Administration.

What You'll Do

Analyze and interpret operational data, including revenue and expense analysis, to support Public Works operations and performance management.
Collect and extract operational data to analyze trends and make recommendations to drive operational needs.
Analyze current and historical spending trends, compare budget to actuals, and interpret data to identify causation of variances.
Perform financial and statistical analysis to support managing, monitoring, and making recommendations based on the City's financial structure.
Provide analysis of processes and financial data as requested to drive operational improvements.
Assist management in producing cost-benefit analysis for various Public Works projects, programs, or operational activities.
Track capital and operating expenditures to ensure compliance with City financial and grant policies and assist with project management.
Track grants to assist grant managers and Finance staff, ensuring compliance with reporting and full capture of available funds.
Assist with preparing budget presentation materials and budget program proposals.
Act as a liaison to Finance, working collaboratively on process improvement, division reporting, and information tracking.
Collect and analyze information on assigned projects, preparing reports with findings, conclusions, and alternative solutions.
Assist Divisions in establishing performance measurement systems using financial, budget, and operational criteria.
Serve as the non-procurement contract subject matter expert and procurement liaison for contract issues for Public Works.
Complete timely processing of invoices.

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Three years of experience performing analytical problem-solving, data manipulation, and data interpretation.
Considerable knowledge of financial analysis principles and techniques, including cost-benefit analysis and forecasting.
Ability to analyze, interpret, and report results of analysis.
Considerable knowledge of the City's organization, operations, finances, and revenue sources.
Good knowledge of financial accounting systems.
Ability to present clear and concise reports, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels in the City structure.
Good judgment and political sensitivity.
Considerable knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
