UNHCR is offering a Protection Internship within the Legal and Policy Team of the Protection Unit at its Representation in Warsaw, Poland. This full-time role provides hands-on experience in legal protection and the UN system, contributing to quality, timely, and effective protection interventions.
What You'll Do
- Respond to individual protection-related inquiries via email using established templates, guidance, and referral pathways.
- Assist in drafting updates, FAQs, and other informational materials for community communication.
- Contribute to documenting protection trends by monitoring developments in national and EU policy and legislation, providing concise summaries.
- Provide administrative and organizational support to the Protection Unit, including compiling inputs, supporting meeting coordination, and preparing background materials.
- Contribute to reception and detention monitoring activities, supporting follow-up actions as required.
- Perform other related duties to support the effective functioning of the Protection Unit.
What We're Looking For
- Current student or recent graduate from a UNESCO-accredited institution, having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in law.
- Excellent communication skills, including strong interpersonal abilities and sound negotiation skills.
- Fluency in English and Polish, with strong writing and editing abilities.
- Solid experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Genuine motivation to learn, grow, and contribute to protection work.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and prioritize workload in a dynamic environment.
- Works well both independently and collaboratively as a flexible and proactive team player.
- Availability to work full-time for the duration of the internship.
- No immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member or affiliate at the time of application.
- You must not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR (8 months for full-time).
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
