Leads mechanical design work packages within automation and material handling system integration projects. Takes full ownership of mechanical assemblies, layouts, and documentation while working closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers to deliver integrated solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and release of mechanical components, system layouts, and associated bills of materials within larger automation projects
- Ensure mechanical designs meet system-level specifications, production feasibility, and cost objectives
- Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and design evaluations to verify equipment reliability and performance
- Coordinate with controls, electrical, and software engineering teams to align mechanical designs with overall system integration
- Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and system commissioning through direct troubleshooting and validation activities
- Work directly with suppliers, offshore engineering groups, and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate fabrication, assembly, and installation of designed systems
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute feedback for improving future system designs
- Travel up to 30% to customer sites to support integration, testing, and commissioning of automated systems
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
- 2 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design within automation, capital equipment, or material handling industries
- Demonstrated ability to deliver mechanical designs that are integrated into complex systems, meeting schedule and scope requirements
- Proficient in 3D CAD modeling and creating detailed mechanical documentation using tools such as Inventor, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks
- Experience working on-site in live operational environments to validate and support integration of mechanical systems
- Familiarity with engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to independently manage mechanical design tasks within multi-disciplinary project environments
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration across teams and with external stakeholders
