Support the delivery of community-led initiatives in Nyabihu and Ngororero, Rwanda, as a Project Assistant. You will play a key role in advancing programs designed to lift households out of extreme poverty within 24 months, working directly with communities, local leaders, and government representatives.
What You'll Do
- Review project designs and budgets with partner villages, providing input to ensure alignment before rollout
- Co-lead training sessions on financial literacy, health and sanitation, agriculture, livestock management, and community savings groups
- Implement program methodologies to boost household income and track progress over time
- Prepare procurement lists and verify inputs before distribution to ensure quality and accuracy
- Monitor project activities, support community groups, and guide households to maintain compliance
- Identify risks and recommend practical solutions to improve implementation
- Hold regular check-ins with community leaders and officials to assess participation and gather feedback
- Strengthen collaboration with local government at the Cell level, including SEDOs and Executive Secretaries
- Engage with local support networks such as farmer promoters, para-social workers, and village coaches
- Mobilize communities for trainings and program events to ensure broad understanding and engagement
- Assist in delivering technical and methodological training under supervision
- Offer on-the-ground support to resolve challenges and maintain momentum
- Develop work plans, submit weekly field reports, and contribute to donor documentation
- Attend team meetings to share updates, challenges, and next steps
- Process financial requests and maintain accountability records
- Capture and share photos for monitoring and data storage
- Support data collection, attendance tracking, and follow-up visits using internal tools
- Provide feedback to improve program design and recommend adjustments for long-term impact
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field
- At least two years of experience working at the village level in rural settings
- Proven ability to coordinate with local government, especially at Sector and Cell levels
- Strong facilitation and training experience
- Fluency in local languages spoken in project areas
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English
- Familiarity with community-based development approaches
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively toward shared goals
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on practical solutions
- Resilience and positivity in demanding, fast-moving environments
- Physical stamina for frequent travel across hilly terrain
- Availability for up to 90% field travel
- Valid Rwandan motorcycle license and experience riding in remote, rural areas
