Join a mission-driven team advancing sustainable change in rural communities. We’re hiring Project Assistants to support the delivery of community-based development programs in Nyabihu and Ngororero districts. In this role, you’ll work directly with households, local leaders, and government officials to implement initiatives that strengthen livelihoods, improve health and sanitation, and promote financial resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead coordination and co-facilitation of training sessions on financial literacy, agriculture, livestock management, health outreach, and behavior change
- Support the review and refinement of project designs and budgets in collaboration with partner communities
- Ensure accurate delivery of program methodologies to boost household income and reduce poverty
- Verify inputs and supplies before distribution and maintain accountability in procurement processes
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and recommend practical improvements
- Engage regularly with community groups and local government representatives to track participation and performance
- Mobilize households for trainings and program activities to ensure broad understanding and engagement
- Deliver field reports weekly, contribute to donor reporting, and support data collection using digital tools
- Develop and manage activity work plans, financial requests, and follow-up documentation
- Capture and share field photos and success stories for internal use
- Build trust among community members, government partners, and project staff to strengthen local ownership
- Provide on-the-ground support to community coaches, farmer promoters, and para-social workers
- Attend team meetings to share updates, challenges, and progress toward goals
- Offer actionable feedback to improve program design and long-term sustainability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Community Development, Social Work, Humanities, or a related field
- At least two years of experience working directly in village-level development programs
- Proven ability to coordinate with local government officials at Sector and Cell levels
- Fluency in local languages spoken in the project areas
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting and planning
- Valid Rwandan motorbike license with experience navigating rural, hilly terrain (mandatory)
- Ability to travel frequently—up to 90% of time—in remote and high-altitude areas
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of balancing independent work with team collaboration
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a positive, resilient attitude in challenging environments
Preferred but Not Required
- Degree in Agriculture or related discipline
Work Environment
This is an onsite role with extensive fieldwork across Nyabihu and Ngororero. You must be physically able to navigate steep terrain and comfortable working in fast-paced community settings.
