Salm Partners, now part of Johnsonville, is seeking a Production Manager to oversee all operations and sanitation-related activities across all shifts within our facility in Denmark, WI. You will monitor production performance, lead process improvements, and drive a culture of continuous improvement, cost savings, and efficiency. This role is critical in ensuring shift compliance with all safety, food safety, quality, SQF, GMP, and USDA requirements.
What You'll Do
- Oversee production operations across blending, stuffing, packaging, sleeving, vat washing and palletizing areas to ensure an efficient production process.
- Supervise Shift Managers & Supervisors/Facilitators; provide guidance and direction in managing their shift performance and personnel.
- Coordinate continuous improvement efforts; evaluate operations processes and methods and provide the Operations team with recommendations for improved process and method approaches.
- Collaboratively with Shift Managers, develop or revise Standard Operating Procedures and Standardized Work Instructions, and ensure compliance to procedures.
- Help identify & eliminate root causes and diminish non-conformance occurrences in the manufacturing processes.
- Ensure routine, standard communications of the daily production schedule and other pertinent information in pre-shift meetings.
- Oversee the daily and weekly staffing needs based on the production schedule to ensure optimal staffing levels, and review temporary staffing utilization.
- Review daily shift production and operating reports; resolve production, operations and maintenance issues in a timely manner to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Monitor and track downtime.
- Compile weekly production metrics reports, monitoring yield, waste, #2, inedible, and OEE for the shift; present operational results weekly.
- Oversee production supply usage, monitoring incoming and outgoing supplies and finished goods.
- Identify training and development needs of personnel assigned to the shift and ensure training is provided in a timely manner.
- Oversee the performance management process, ensuring performance reviews and disciplinary actions are completed appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Oversee the sanitation and Master Sanitation activities on the shift.
- Assist with maintaining SQF compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all established GMP, USDA-FSIS and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Oversee the completion of Accident & Near Miss incident investigations; ensure resolution of all safety issues and concerns from a corrective actions and preventive measures standpoint.
- Provide backup assistance to the Facilitators and Shift Managers in the event of absences.
- Promote and ensure compliance with all established safety policies and procedures.
- Foster and support a positive, open and inclusive work environment.
- Support and promote the Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives of the company.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management or related field OR a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of GMP and HACCP.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operational parameters, safety rules, equipment operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of partners of the organization.
- Strong computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.
- Previous experience with MAS 500 or related integrated manufacturing software.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, and percentages, and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
- Ability to solve problems by applying root cause problem solving methods.
- Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Exemplary interpersonal communication skills and enjoy teaching and developing people.
- Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, honesty, trustworthiness, and personal and professional integrity.
Nice to Have
- Experience with ready-to-eat processed meats.
- Training or experience applying Root Cause Problem Solving methodologies.
