About the Role

Mercury Insurance is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to design, implement, and maintain a reliable, scalable, and agile enterprise hybrid application platform. In this role, you will bridge platform engineering and database teams, focusing on building self-service tooling for cloud databases and orchestrating automation for software packaging, integration, testing, and deployment.

What You'll Do

  • Work independently and collaboratively to gather requirements and implement CI/CD pipelines with other technical teams.
  • Implement best practices for continuous integration and continuous deployment.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams on environment automation and streamlining using infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Develop and improve monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Automate security-related activities including code scanning, package scanning, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Assist in developing automated test, deployment, code versioning, and GitHub actions.
  • Define and set development, test, release, update, and support processes for DevOps operations.
  • Strive for continuous improvement and build robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Architect, design, and deploy AWS resources including provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Effectively manage and leverage Docker and Kubernetes container platforms.
  • Work with various Engineering teams to outline DevOps execution strategies for different projects.
  • Drive automation efforts using Terraform, Configuration Management, and CI/CD tools like Jenkins.
  • Assist with organization-wide security considerations, identify risks, and create automation to detect and mitigate them.
  • Own the company's CI/CD technology stack and execute on roadmap items.
  • Own the company's service hosting decision tree for on-prem, hybrid, or Cloud decisions.
  • Provide 7x24 system support as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technology field.
  • 18–20 years of overall related technology experience.
  • 8–10 years of experience in heavy infrastructure and DevOps/CI/CD within large transformation organizations.
  • Experience working with Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of web application development.
  • Deep experience with Docker, Apache Camel, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, Python, and scripting languages.
  • Experience working within Agile development teams.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms, Linux Operating Systems, Networking, and Database.
  • Deep experience with DevOps Management tools (repository, packaging, unit testing, code scanning, package scanning) such as Maven, Gradle, Helm, Sonatype.
  • Prior exposure to continuous integration/delivery tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI.
  • Ability to work on demand to provide 7x24 mission critical support.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to collaborate throughout all organizational levels and with external partners.
  • Initiative driven; self-motivated. A learner: Curious, open to new experiences, willing to take imperfect steps and learn from mistakes, action oriented.

Nice to Have

  • A DevOps Engineer Certificate.
  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience with cloud database technologies (AWS RDS, Aurora, and DocumentDB).
