Role Overview
We’re seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer based in Canada to lead our remote DevOps function and help shape the technical direction and engineering standards across our organization. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing and maintaining scalable cloud infrastructure, guiding a team of DevOps professionals, and ensuring the reliability and security of our production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of DevOps engineers, offering mentorship, technical guidance, and growth opportunities.
- Architect and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, integrating third-party services and ensuring high availability.
- Implement infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and AWS CDK to automate deployment and improve consistency.
- Build and maintain secure, efficient CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
- Monitor system performance and reliability using tools like Datadog and AWS X-Ray, responding proactively to incidents.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues across infrastructure, networking, and application layers, conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes.
- Collaborate with security teams to audit systems, enforce compliance, and embed security controls into deployment workflows.
- Participate in change advisory processes, approving releases and ensuring operational risk is properly assessed.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve tooling, automation, and processes.
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in DevOps or systems engineering, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
- Proven expertise with AWS and cloud-native architectures.
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, or shell scripting.
- Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, AWS ECS).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and monitoring solutions.
- Experience troubleshooting in 24/7 production environments across multiple technical layers.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly through writing, diagrams, and verbal discussion.
- Strong collaboration skills with experience working across engineering, QA, and product teams.
Work Environment
This is a remote position open to candidates across Canada, with a preference for those on the East Coast to align with EST working hours. The role operates within a flexible, home-based model with support for setting up an effective workspace.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $110,000 – $150,000 CAD, commensurate with experience.
