Zachry Engineering Corporation seeks a Principal Process Engineer to lead engineering and design tasks on assigned projects, manage a team, and ensure project execution meets client expectations and schedule commitments. This role provides key support to our Corpus Christi office.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership to develop scope documents during early project development phases.
- Translate project design basis and client specifications into definable process tasks and manage a team to execute this work.
- Ensure proper quality checks and documentation per Zachry's quality program.
- Execute the Process engineering scope on assigned projects, independently applying standard engineering techniques and criteria.
- Manage a portfolio of many small projects or a large/EPC project.
- Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of a staff of engineers, also contributing as an individual as needed.
- Mentor younger engineers and lead department development initiatives and standards creation.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and Process/Mechanical Equipment Datasheets.
- Size and rate equipment including pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and air coolers.
- Perform hydraulic analysis for piping systems, including single phase, two phase, slurries, and water hammer.
- Participate in client Process Hazard Analysis reviews such as HAZID and HAZOP/LOPA.
- Design relief systems including contingency analysis, relief valve sizing, and flare header analysis.
- Present technical information to peers and clients for review.
- Analyze problems to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems.
- Evaluate equipment and processes for compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Estimate resource requirements for new project proposals.
- Coordinate with an offshore High Value Engineering Center to delegate engineering and drafting scope.
- Manage administrative aspects of project execution including budget tracking, schedule updates, forecasts, and earned value.
- Maintain active status in a drug and/or alcohol testing consortium.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 20+ years of experience as a Process / Mechanical Engineer in Oil Refining, Gas Processing, Power, or Chemical industries.
- 7+ years in an Engineering firm managing a team of Process / Mechanical engineers on capital/major maintenance projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of processes in Power / Process plants.
- Proven track record leading an engineering team on a $250 MM+ project or portfolio of smaller projects.
- Willingness to travel <25% to client sites, complying with all safety policies.
- Experience applying standard engineering techniques to ensure designs are compliant with regulations.
- Proven experience in PFD, P&ID and Equipment Datasheet development.
- Proficiency in H&MB development, equipment specification, and performing hydraulic analysis; strong background in HMB for Combined Cycle Projects preferred.
- Knowledge of Performance Guarantees including emissions compliance.
- Experience specifying fixed and rotating equipment including STG, CTG, and HRSG.
- Strong knowledge of ASME and API 520/521 for designing relief systems.
- Excellent communication skills (Active Listening, Verbal, and Written).
- History of successful project execution with significant client contact.
- Ability to adapt to changing client requirements while remaining a positive role model.
- Excellent attention to detail in own work and when checking the work of others.
- Proven history of meeting schedule commitments and planning resource needs.
- Proficient with Process modeling software (AspenTech suite preferred).
- Demonstrated desire to learn new technologies and apply them to projects.
Nice to Have
- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Experience utilizing the Thermoflow suite of Software Tools for HMB and TIC estimates.
- Experience with Cryogenic / Liquefaction processes.
- Experience designing OSBL/Utility scopes to support Licensor packages.
- Past exposure to environmental permitting and citing studies.
