AEMO is hiring a Principal Engineer within our WA Future System Design & Transformation group. This role focuses on the future of Western Australia's main electricity system (SWIS) and gas sector, leading critical engineering studies to support power system security, reliability, and the transition to 100% renewables. You will provide technical leadership and support the delivery of actions under AEMO's SWIS Engineering Roadmap.
What You'll Do
- Support and lead delivery of major system design and transformation initiatives under the SWIS Engineering Roadmap.
- Define and deliver engineering studies and advice with considerations of practical timescales and AEMO's operational lens.
- Provide engineering expertise and advisory services to support reform development and implementation.
- Translate AEMO's latest technical understanding from the SWIS Engineering Roadmap for a non-technical audience.
- Maximize the impact of Engineering Roadmap implementation efforts and strengthen AEMO's position as a trusted thought leader.
What We're Looking For
- A degree in power system engineering or a related field.
- Deep expertise in the operation and planning of large power systems, and the engineering challenges of the SWIS transition.
- Knowledge of electrical power system modelling and analysis tools, such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, MATLAB, or PSCAD.
- Ability to automate processes and programs using a relevant programming language, such as Python.
- Demonstrated experience making innovation and change happen, thinking strategically, and driving pragmatic outcomes.
- Experience in facilitating industry working groups and negotiating resolution of complex issues across stakeholders.
