Athena Actuarial Consulting seeks a Principal - Commercial & Employer Health Actuary to set strategic direction and nurture key client relationships. You will guide complex engagements from opportunity through delivery, collaborating across the firm to shape impactful solutions and grow the health practice.
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage client accounts ranging from small analyses to large consulting engagements.
- Serve as day-to-day client leadership contact and strategic advisor, ensuring high-quality deliverables aligned with client goals.
- Guide actuarial modeling, analysis, and review processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Effectively communicate with diverse technical and nontechnical audiences in formal and informal settings.
- Mentor and manage junior staff, supporting their growth through training and feedback.
- Partner with leadership to build and grow the health areas of practice and develop the supporting team.
- Assist with new business development and sales leads, including attending/speaking at conferences and writing articles.
- Demonstrate exemplary personal and professional integrity, supporting Athena's mission and values.
- Participate in Athena strategy meetings and provide feedback on strategic initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years of professional experience.
- ASA or FSA certification.
- Expertise in Actuarial Modeling, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word.
- Experience with Medicaid.
- Clear, confident communication tailored to a variety of audiences.
- Curiosity and courage to challenge the status quo.
- In-depth experience in client and/or project management.
- Demonstrated experience in health actuarial projects.
- Successful experience in a consulting environment, managing multiple clients and accounts.
- Experience managing and developing junior resources through training and collaboration.
- Proven track record in identifying new sales opportunities and driving revenue growth.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and travel to client locations as required.
- Passion for growing a business from the bottom up through business development and strategic efforts.
Nice to Have
- Experience in proposal writing or thought leadership.
- Professional engagement in industry conferences, speaking engagements, or publishing.
- Commercial and employer health experience.
- Proficiency in data visualization design and tools.
