About the Role
The Powerline Surveyor Party Chief will supervise field survey operations, ensuring accurate data collection for powerline corridors. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and adherence to safety protocols in remote and rugged environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead survey field crews in the collection of topographic and alignment data for power transmission lines
- Ensure all field measurements meet project specifications and industry standards
- Operate and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS systems, and data collectors
- Perform boundary and right-of-way surveys to support easement acquisition
- Supervise junior surveyors and field personnel during project execution
- Prepare field notes, sketches, and documentation for office processing
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers to resolve field issues
- Conduct pre-job planning and site reconnaissance for upcoming assignments
- Enforce safety policies and conduct regular field safety checks
- Troubleshoot technical problems with survey instruments and software
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and field progress
- Communicate daily with office staff to report status and deliverables
- Work in remote locations with variable weather and terrain conditions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local surveying regulations
- Assist in the development of survey procedures and field workflows

Field Conditions
- Work is conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain
- Field locations may be remote with limited access to facilities

- Projects may require overnight stays or multi-day field assignments
