Responsibilities
- Conducts independent research on projects within the area of specialization, guided by a mentor.
- Gains comprehensive technical and theoretical knowledge of the research project and its objectives during the postdoctoral appointment, which lasts between one to five years.
- Demonstrates the ability to execute experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, analysis, and the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
- Maintains knowledge of safety standards and the upkeep of specialized equipment.
Requirements
- Completion of advanced training in a cardiovascular medicine subspecialty, such as cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, or angiology, including pediatric and nuclear cardiology.
- Citizenship and current residency in a Middle East country, including Israel.
- Current employment at an academic institution in the Middle East.
- Eligibility to obtain an appropriate US visa, such as a J-1 visa.
- A letter from the applicant's home academic institution expressing interest in providing a faculty position upon completion of the fellowship program.
- A commitment to return to the home country upon completion of the fellowship to become a leader and educator.
Compensation
A stipend will be provided to each selected applicant.

Two fellows will be selected, one from Israel and one from another Middle Eastern country, to collaborate at the institute in Los Angeles over the two-year fellowship.

- Two Smidt Middle East Post-Doc Fellows will be selected, one from Israel and one from another Middle Eastern country. who will work side by side in the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai in areas of overlapping focus to encourage collaboration over their two-year fellowship in Los Angeles.
- A salary (stipend) will be provided to each applicant that is selected for the program.
- The program has been designed to foster understanding, collegiality and cooperation between and among future leaders in the region.
