Plant Purchasing Role Overview
As a Plant Purchaser, you will oversee the procurement lifecycle within the manufacturing facility, ensuring materials are ordered, received, and documented accurately and on time. You'll work closely with suppliers to maintain reliable delivery schedules that support production timelines, while ensuring all purchases comply with company policies and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Track and verify incoming orders and deliveries, maintaining accurate records of all transactions
- Review and process purchase orders and claims to ensure alignment with procurement guidelines
- Assist in onboarding new vendors and maintaining vendor documentation
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support continuous improvement
- Uphold strict adherence to OSHA regulations and promote safe workplace behaviors
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering production areas
- Communicate effectively across teams, including remote colleagues, to resolve issues proactively
- Support a culture rooted in safety, accountability, and mutual respect
- Encourage innovation and recognize contributions that align with company values
- Build strong working relationships across departments and organizational levels
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including after-hours communication via email or phone
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and following both written and verbal instructions
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and general fluency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Commitment to core values such as integrity, stewardship, accountability, and self-discipline
- Willingness to work in a production environment with moderate cold temperatures (35–55°F) and high noise levels
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and wear required PPE including earplugs, hairnets, beard nets, protective eyewear, and slip-resistant footwear
Work Environment
This is an on-site role primarily based in an office setting, with regular access to production areas. The position requires occasional after-hours availability for vendor and team coordination.
