Physicians play a vital role in delivering healthcare where it’s needed most. You’ll provide direct clinical care and lead medical teams in regions affected by armed conflict, disease outbreaks, and natural disasters. Operating in over 70 countries, you’ll work in challenging conditions where infrastructure is limited and demand for services is high.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on patient care across diverse clinical settings
- Train, supervise, and coordinate with local medical personnel to strengthen capacity
- Develop and adapt medical protocols based on local needs and epidemiological data
- Oversee the management, ordering, and forecasting of medications and medical supplies
- Ensure accurate documentation and analysis of medical activities and outcomes
- Contribute to the planning and evaluation of medical programs
Qualifications
You must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree with a current, unrestricted license to practice. Assignments require a minimum 9- to 12-month commitment, with at least two years of professional experience post-residency and recent clinical practice (within the last two years). Experience managing or training staff is essential, as is prior work in low-resource or humanitarian settings.
Clinical expertise in one or more of the following is required: public health, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, nutrition, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, ICU, or minor surgery. Fluency in French or Arabic (B2 level or higher) is preferred. Additional qualifications such as training in tropical medicine, refugee health, or infectious diseases—particularly HIV/TB—are highly valued.
Work Environment
Assignments take place in conflict zones, post-conflict areas, and disaster-affected regions. Living and working conditions are basic, with long hours and high demands. You’ll need resilience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to ethical medical practice.
Values and Culture
This work is guided by principles of medical ethics, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. The organization prioritizes care based on need alone, regardless of nationality, religion, or political affiliation. Team members are encouraged to bear witness and speak openly about patient conditions and challenges in the field.
Compensation and Growth
Physicians are salaried employees. The role offers opportunities for professional development and the possibility of multiple field assignments. We value diverse perspectives and are committed to building teams that reflect a broad range of backgrounds and experiences in service of global medical equity.
