Highmark Health's Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Physician Assistant Surgical, Neurosurgery to join our team. In this role, you will identify and manage medical and surgical problems within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice, providing essential support in a neurosurgical clinical environment.
What You'll Do
- Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
- Perform physical exams, document in the medical record, order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures, and establish presumptive diagnoses.
- Assist in the OR by serving as first or second assistant during neurosurgical procedures.
- Provide appropriate daily patient care including rounds on surgical patients, developing therapeutic care plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, discharge planning, and maintaining accurate medical record documentation.
- Communicate with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involve the physician in clinical decision making for issues outside your knowledge base or scope.
- Educate patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommend community resources.
- Prepare written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement with the supervising physician.
- Triage patient telephone calls.
What We're Looking For
- BA/BS Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Current Pennsylvania Physician Assistant License.
- Board eligible. PA-C required or board eligible (License and certification required within 90 days of employment. Ongoing successful recertification (NCCPA) as a PA-C).
- CPR – American Heart Association.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Nice to Have
- ACLS certification.
- 1-3 years’ experience.
