MD Anderson Cancer Center is hiring a Senior Physical Therapist specializing in orthopedic oncology within the Orthopaedic Surgery department. In this role, you will provide state-of-the-art treatment for patients with musculoskeletal bone tumors and soft tissue sarcomas, maximizing patient function through advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques. You will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, utilizing critical thinking and a creative approach to navigate complex cases, with opportunities for program development, research, and academics.
What You'll Do
- Assess patients’ needs by selecting and performing appropriate assessment tools aligned with evidence-based practice.
- Develop and revise interventions and programs as needed to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Identify patient/family communication styles and seek alternate forms of communication when necessary.
- Identify and implement appropriate outcome measures to track functional changes.
- Identify and initiate evidence-based physical therapy interventions to improve/maintain patient functional status.
- Effectively and efficiently treat a wide variety of diagnoses and conditions, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning.
- Provide patient and family teaching and education.
- Demonstrate proficiency in timely, efficient, and appropriate ordering of DME.
- Delegate and supervise physical therapy assistants and rehab techs appropriately, including required documentation.
- Effectively respond to emergencies and/or unsafe situations.
- Complete concise, logical, and timely documentation that supports billing and integrates objective data.
- Capture charges in accordance with departmental policy.
- Function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Communicate clinical and logistical information in a timely manner using effective written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrate initiative with all department and institutional policies and procedures.
- Meet targets for volume of billable services and effectively manage workload to balance consults and treatments.
- Initiate communication with supervisor/peers to assist with patient care when needed.
- Provide clinical leadership in performance improvement, quality initiatives, or program development.
- Engage in publishing, teaching, and research both within the institution and the community.
- Mentor new employees or provide integral support in student educational programs.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree or Advanced degree from accredited School of Physical Therapy.
- 3 years experience as a physical therapist.
- PT - Physical Therapist License in the state of Texas issued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners upon hire.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) upon hire.
Nice to Have
- Physical Therapist experience in an inpatient acute care setting, preferably oncology.
