The BMW Group is looking for a PhD Candidate in ESG Risk Analytics in Global Supply Chains. In this role, you will develop scalable models to assess ESG risks and meet regulatory requirements, working at the intersection of sustainability, supply chain management, and artificial intelligence.
What You'll Do
- Develop an LLM-supported ESG risk register for automated assignment of unstructured information to regulatory risk categories.
- Build a scalable source and data corpus and develop suitable methods for structuring unstructured information.
- Concept and implement a prototype for assessing abstract ESG risks as a basis for risk-based supplier prioritization.
- Iteratively evaluate and improve the approach based on defined quality criteria and expert feedback.
- Prepare results for various target groups and contribute to internal and external formats.
- Publish research results in collaboration with Ulm University and participate in scientific exchange on ESG, supply chain management, and artificial intelligence.
What We're Looking For
- An excellent Master’s degree (or equivalent) in business administration, economics, management, industrial engineering, business informatics, or a comparable program.
- Fulfillment (or imminent fulfillability) of the formal admission requirements for a doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) at Ulm University.
- A strong interest in sustainable supply chains, ESG risk management, and regulatory issues such as CSDDD/LkSG.
- Experience with data analysis and programming, for example with Python, and an interest in NLP and LLMs.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of prompting or model evaluation.
- Very good English language skills in word and writing; German language skills are desirable.
