CVS Health is looking for a Pharmacy Intern - Grad to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional pharmacy practice. This graduate-level internship is designed to prepare you for a Pharmacist role by applying didactic knowledge to real-world operations under the direction of a preceptor and District Leader.
What You'll Do
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap within 120 days of graduation to deepen your understanding of store, district, and regional operations.
- Deepen your understanding of patient safety, error prevention, quality assurance, drug utilization review, and professional standards like corresponding responsibility.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure smooth operations, prompt and accurate prescription fulfillment, and service that exceeds patient expectations.
- Learn and apply Standard Operating Procedures, best practices, and effective communication as part of the pharmacy team.
- Demonstrate empathy and contribute to a safe, inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.
- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to support Pharmacists and Technicians in managing patient health.
- Execute pharmacy workflow procedures at production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off stations for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences through personalized service at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone, offering immunizations and other health services.
- Offer to counsel patients and field medical questions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, soliciting medical history to provide optimal care.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify orders or facilitate medication changes as allowed by state regulation.
- Maintain a high level of self-awareness and provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members while sharing best practices.
- Complete basic inventory activities as directed and permitted by law, such as putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and returns-to-stocks.
- Contribute to a high-performing team by embracing a growth mindset, being receptive to feedback, and actively seeking to expand your clinical and technical knowledge.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, traveling to stores in the market as required to work shifts.
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety, security, and privacy.
- Deliver additional patient health care services like immunizations and point-of-care testing where allowable by law and supported by required training.
- Support immunizations where permissible, including obtaining Technician Immunizer status, educating patients, monitoring for reactions, and collecting patient information.
What We're Looking For
- PharmD graduate from a U.S. accredited program prior to beginning the Post-Graduate Training Program.
- Ability to obtain required pharmacist licensure within the required timeframe, per state guidelines. Failure to obtain licensure within 120 days of graduation results in separation.
- Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, valid intern and/or technician licensure as required.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus to concentrate on tasks, pivot between them, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
- Customer service and team orientation to actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner and respond appropriately to patients.
- Communication skills to use and understand verbal and written communication and utilize active listening.
- Mathematical reasoning to use math to solve problems like determining tablet counts, day's supply, and bottle quantities.
- Problem resolution skills to identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
- Physical ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods; lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead; stretch; move fingers repetitively; occasionally lift up to 20 lbs; frequently lift up to 10 lbs; and communicate verbally.
Nice to Have
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Ability to become immunization certified and provide immunizations as an essential pharmacist function.
- Ability to work in your home store and across the market in other locations to meet business needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

- Compensation: $20.25 - $42.00 per hour.
