ALS is looking for a Petrographer to join our team. You will be responsible for preparing coal samples for petrographic analysis and carrying out routine petrographic work and microscopy. The role begins on a day shift for training before offering varied shift options.
What You'll Do
- Prepare coal samples for petrographic analysis in line with Australian Standards.
- Carry out routine petrographic work and general microscopy.
- Meet project deadlines and contribute to strong customer satisfaction.
- Keep up to date with relevant procedures and laboratory methods.
- Follow all local and site safety rules to maintain a safe working environment.
- Follow all ALS policies and procedures and work in accordance with the ALS Code of Conduct.
- Report any breaches or concerns to management.
- Perform duties to a high standard and support a strong quality culture in the lab.
- Understand and apply the company’s key HSE policies.
- Be familiar with the safety and environmental requirements in the safety manual.
- Ensure compliance with ALS HSE standards at all times.
- Help maintain a safe and well-equipped laboratory environment.
- Report and address any unsafe practices or environmental issues.
- Support continual improvement of the safety and sustainability culture.
- Comply with relevant state OHS legislation.
What We're Looking For
- A Science degree or equivalent qualification.
- Full-time availability.
- A current driver’s licence.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol test.
- Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or hold/able to obtain a valid working visa.
Nice to Have
- Microscope experience.
- Experience with coal or coal petrology.
- Proactive attitude and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
