FocusLab is hiring a People Operations Coordinator to manage the entire employee lifecycle at our remote-friendly strategic brand agency. You will partner closely with the Chief People Officer on benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and team culture initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Administer our benefits suite, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, critical illness, accident, and cancer plans, plus the 401(k), serving as the go-to person for employee questions.
- Support payroll processes, compensation research, tracking, and maintenance.
- Manage our ATS, coordinate recruitment, communicate with applicants, and schedule interviews.
- Facilitate and improve thoughtful, compliant onboarding and offboarding experiences.
- Handle state and federal compliance efforts, including workers' compensation, I-9 verification, and labor law notices.
- Support various audits and filings, such as 401(k) audits, Form 5500, W-2, and 1099 forms.
- Lead team recognition, culture efforts, swag ideation/assembly/shipping, and internal event planning.
- Provide general people ops support to keep daily operations running smoothly.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of People Operations experience.
- Clear, thoughtful written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience administering benefits for a distributed or remote team.
- Comfort working in Google Workspace and modern People Ops tools like Gusto, Lattice, and Workable.
- Ability to work well within a team and build strong, trusting relationships.
- Self-awareness and curiosity to find answers independently.
- Willingness to have thoughtful, sometimes tough conversations.
- Strong active listening skills and a natural sense of empathy.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting a remote team (strongly preferred).
- Agency experience (a plus).
- SHRM certification.
- Specific experience with Gusto, Lattice, and Workable.
- Interest in learning how AI tools can thoughtfully support People Ops work.

Team & Environment
You will partner closely with the Chief People Officer, and occasionally the Chief Operations Officer, reporting directly to the Chief People Officer.
