About the Role
This position leads payroll operations specific to China, ensuring precise execution, regulatory compliance, and coordination across teams. The individual will manage complex payroll cycles, support audits, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of local labor laws.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end processing of monthly payroll for employees in China
- Ensure all payroll data is accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule
- Collaborate with HR and finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies
- Maintain compliance with Chinese labor regulations and tax requirements
- Oversee payroll tax filings and year-end adjustments
- Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation
- Train and guide payroll coordinators on procedures and system use
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency
- Monitor payroll system performance and escalate technical issues
- Stay current on changes in local employment laws affecting payroll
- Coordinate with global payroll teams to align practices and reporting
- Prepare detailed payroll reports for management review
- Manage employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and taxes
- Ensure data privacy and confidentiality in all payroll activities
- Assist in the implementation of new payroll system features
- Verify timesheet and attendance data before payroll processing
- Reconcile payroll outputs with general ledger entries
- Support onboarding and offboarding payroll setup for employees
- Maintain up-to-date payroll policies and documentation
- Escalate payroll risks or issues to management promptly
- Participate in cross-border payroll projects as needed
- Ensure consistency in payroll practices across regions
- Review bonus and incentive payments for accuracy
- Support year-end tax reporting and employee statements
