As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and efficiency of US payroll operations within a global finance environment. Based in Lisbon, this hybrid position supports critical payroll functions using Workday and SAP, ensuring timely processing and adherence to regulatory standards.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and execute weekly and monthly payroll cycles, ensuring data integrity and on-time delivery
- Collaborate with timekeeping administrators to verify hours, leave entries, and attendance records
- Calculate wages, retroactive payments, bonuses, and special adjustments accurately
- Process employee status changes, tax withholdings, deductions, and leave-related updates
- Conduct regular audits to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions
- Support system testing for payroll-related upgrades, tax updates, and new functionality rollouts
- Generate reports and manage bulk data integrations as needed
- Assist with year-end W-2 preparation and related compliance activities
- Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve issues efficiently
- Partner with the Payroll Accounting team on reconciliations and financial accruals
- Lead initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance process reliability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration
- Fluent English communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management tools
- Solid understanding of end-to-end business processes and internal controls
- Demonstrated experience improving operational procedures
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional, global teams
- Willingness to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous payroll processing experience
- Functional experience with ERP, HR, or Payroll systems such as Workday or SAP
- Familiarity with US payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance standards
