Hilmar Cheese Company is looking for a Payroll Manager to manage company-wide payroll preparation and distribution for our Hilmar, Dalhart, and Kansas locations. In this role, you will ensure accurate, timely processing in compliance with regulations and maintain data integrity across all payroll systems.
What You'll Do
- Oversee bi-weekly payroll, special payments, 401k wire transfers, tax deposits, and ACH file transmittal.
- Lead a high-performing Payroll team comprised of one Payroll Processing Specialist.
- Manage the relationship with the company’s external payroll service provider to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient payroll production.
- Lead Payroll-related system administration, troubleshooting, implementation, configuration, and integration while partnering with Human Resources and IT.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices to improve efficiencies in payroll processing.
- Validate federal and state quarterly and annual reports.
- Reconcile tax returns for state, federal (IRS), and the SSA (Social Security Administration).
- Work cross-functionally with multiple internal and external stakeholders (HR, Legal, IT, Benefits, and external service providers) providing payroll related support.
- Participate in scheduled annual audits and audit requests as needed.
- Perform special projects as needed.
- Maintain regulatory updates and detailed policy/procedures.
- Maintain the General Ledger account structure.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance or related field plus 5 years related experience OR Master’s degree plus 1 year related experience.
- Strong understanding and adherence to confidentiality, integrity, and ethics.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience overseeing a process and direct reports.
- Proficient in Excel (e.g., V-lookups, pivot tables, and formulas).
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance or related field plus 7 years’ related experience OR Master's degree plus 2 years related experience.
- ADP Vantage Payroll Software experience.
- SAP experience.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) Certification.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: USD $103,145.0 - $154,718.0 annually.
