Join a trusted research organization as an Accountant responsible for overseeing financial operations in Tanzania. You will play a key role in maintaining precise financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting field-based projects through effective financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out monthly accounting entries and reconciliations for bank accounts, petty cash, suppliers, and tax obligations using QuickBooks.
- Keep financial records accurate and up to date for all income and expenditures.
- Organize and maintain contracts, invoices, payroll documents, and other financial records.
- Generate monthly financial reports and support updates to cashflow forecasts.
- Ensure full compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations, including PAYE, VAT, WHT, and NSSF requirements.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants and auditors by supplying documentation and addressing inquiries.
- Track cash and bank balances, ensuring sufficient local and foreign currency for daily operations.
- Enhance internal financial controls and help improve cost efficiency through supplier negotiations.
- Review field team expenses and align budgeted amounts with actual spending.
- Produce detailed expense reports after each round of fieldwork.
- Process payments for projects and suppliers promptly and accurately.
- Support budget planning for field operations and project execution.
- Assist in procuring office supplies and managing operational needs.
- Supervise support staff, including cleaning personnel.
- Help coordinate logistics for trainings, workshops, and meetings—covering venues, transport, and catering.
- Provide general administrative support to maintain efficient office functioning.
Qualifications
- Citizen of Tanzania.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Management, or a related discipline.
- At least four years of professional experience in accounting or finance roles.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance standards.
- Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and other MS Office applications.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and Swahili.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

- Gross monthly starting salary of TZS 2,150,960, with final grade based on experience and performance in the hiring process.
