Chime is hiring a German-speaking Payroll Accountant to manage the full employee payroll process for our organization in Germany. You will be responsible for the preparation, records maintenance, and monthly financial reporting for 900+ employees. This is an opportunity to help shape the payroll function within a rapidly expanding organization while collaborating with colleagues from our global Finance team.
What You'll Do
- Drive the monthly payroll process in Germany, working closely with our external payroll partner.
- Work with our Finance and People teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll submissions.
- Understand German tax requirements, changes in wage and tax laws, and other regulatory changes impacting payroll.
- Perform periodic audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy of employee pay information.
- Design and implement process improvements and internal controls for the payroll process.
- Ensure benefit deductions and tax withholdings are calculated and reported timely and accurately.
- Lead all aspects of the monthly financial reporting process related to payroll, including preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Serve as the main point-of-contact for employees on questions relating to pay.
- Perform ad-hoc projects and other assignments as needed to support the broader team.
- Exercise the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all payroll information and employee privacy.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of relevant payroll experience in Germany.
- Tech-savvy, with a strong understanding of HRIS systems like P&I Loga and proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to perform payroll tasks completely, accurately, and timely, with minimum supervision.
- Passionate about improving processes and developing innovative solutions.
- Committed to completing each task with the highest degree of accuracy.
- Demonstrated experience in partnering with internal teams and juggling multiple priorities.
- Great written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact across different organizational levels.
- Fluent in German and English.
- Willingness to travel to Berlin once a month to work on-site with the team.
