About the Role

Duke University's Duke Regional Hospital is seeking a Patient Safety Officer to join our dedicated Patient Safety team. In this role, you will support the implementation of patient safety science, practices, and system-driven plans across the organization, advancing our core commitment to compassionate care that changes lives.

What You'll Do

  • Facilitate the implementation of the organization's patient safety plan in alignment with Duke Health and Duke Regional Hospital objectives.
  • Collaborate with physician, nurse, and other clinical and non-clinical leaders to influence and support a robust culture of safety.
  • Facilitate sentinel event response and ensure thorough root cause analysis following standard methodology.
  • Conduct and coach others in proactive analysis to identify trends, patterns, or gaps in systems and processes related to care delivery and safety.
  • Promote a learning culture through a multi-faceted system to share knowledge.
  • Contribute to developing patient safety, culture, and teamwork training content and provide coaching to all levels of the organization.
  • Serve as a facilitator and change agent, navigating complex issues with humble inquiry and leadership skills.
  • Practice skills of open-ended questioning, attentive listening, and recognize sound problem-solving aligned with the Duke Quality System.
  • Coach others and facilitate the development of action plans to monitor and analyze the effectiveness of improvement efforts.
  • Support or work with project managers on project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a health-related or business field is required.

Nice to Have

  • A Masters' Degree is preferred.
