This role supports children ages 6 to 11 who have experienced complex trauma or exhibit behavioral challenges. As a PATHS Program Counselor, you will deliver the Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies (PATHS) curriculum during after-school hours, focusing on building emotional regulation, coping strategies, and social skills in a structured classroom setting.
What You'll Do
- Deliver weekly PATHS lessons to a group of six children in collaboration with a co-counselor, ensuring consistent implementation of the curriculum.
- Apply behavior management techniques and reinforcement systems to guide positive choices and strengthen emotional resilience.
- Collaborate with program leadership during supervision sessions to address classroom dynamics, behavioral concerns, and co-counseling coordination.
- Support safe transportation by monitoring bus routines and communicating with drivers and program staff about logistics and safety compliance.
- Prepare materials and finalize lesson plans remotely on non-program days to ensure readiness for upcoming sessions.
- Attend all required training dates and remain available during program hours, which typically run from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., with possible shifts as early as 2:30 p.m. or as late as 7:30 p.m.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Commitment to all scheduled training sessions and program days.
- Successful completion of background checks through OCFS and the UR Compliance Office, required for working with minors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid New York State driver’s license.
Benefits
Hourly pay ranges from $17.00 to $22.10, determined by experience, education, qualifications, and internal equity. The position is onsite at 187 Edinburgh St, Rochester, with required in-person attendance on Mondays and Wednesdays. Some planning tasks may be completed remotely on non-program days. Staff must maintain flexibility in scheduling to meet program needs.
