Whatnot is seeking a Partnerships Manager to lead the growth of our seller community as we launch into Japan. In this role, you will be instrumental in building the seller community from the ground up, creating innovative marketing events that define the community spirit, and using data-driven insights to shape our category and country strategy.
What You'll Do
- Source and reach out to sellers to convince them to join and grow their business on Whatnot using social media, outbound channels, and in-person events.
- Partner with top sellers and strategic partners to build large-scale businesses on the platform.
- Act as the go-to advisor for sellers, educating and coaching them on ways to grow their businesses effectively.
- Stay close to sellers and buyers to deeply understand user needs and provide key insights to the product team.
- Spearhead diverse marketing initiatives, such as influencer partnerships, to boost brand awareness and attract buyers.
- Organize and execute on-app events connected to exciting products, cultural moments, and fandoms related to your category.
- Utilize large sets of data to inform category and country plans and track outcomes meticulously.
- Independently drive strategic projects both within your own category and across the partnerships function.
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of mixed experience in a fast-paced, client-facing role in high-output environments (e.g., Strategy Consulting, Private Equity, or partnerships at a fast-paced tech company).
- Proven experience in a business development or partner-facing role.
- Scrappy and flexible approach, comfortable working in an ambiguous environment with limited guidance.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills with the ability to fully own both strategy and execution on both sides of an emerging marketplace.
- Strong business acumen, deeply analytical, and comfortable understanding and manipulating data to gain and act on business insights.
- Fluent English and native Japanese proficiency.
- Must live within commuting distance of the Tokyo hub.
Nice to Have
- Experience at a high-growth startup, marketplace, or creator-focused platform.
- An existing network of sellers, creators, and influencers within a relevant Whatnot product category.
- Proficiency in SQL.
- A passion for creator communities and/or expertise in existing Whatnot product categories like vintage clothing or collectibles.
- Personal experience buying and selling in online marketplaces.
