Penn State is hiring a Part-Time Farm/Field Worker to perform hands-on agricultural and research support duties at our research farms and fields. This role is essential to supporting our teaching, research, and service mission through direct, on-the-ground contributions.
What You'll Do
- Set up, lay out, and prepare experimental plots.
- Perform all aspects of crop maintenance including planting, transplanting, irrigating, cultivating, fertilizing, mowing, pruning, spraying, weeding, and harvesting.
- Load, unload, transport, and weigh crops and agricultural materials.
- Attach farm implements like plows, discs, and sprayers to tractors.
- Operate farm machinery using specialized techniques in research settings, including utility vehicles, trucks, tractors, harvesters, and other equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on facilities, equipment, and vehicles to ensure operational readiness, safety, and cleanliness.
- Collect soil and tissue samples, record data, and assist with crop estimates.
- Assist with public field days, exhibitions, and extension events.
- Assist with constructing trellises and small carpentry projects.
- Maintain shops, storage areas, farm grounds, and equipment in a neat and orderly condition.
What We're Looking For
- A valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check.
- Successful completion of standard background check(s).
Work Mode
This is an onsite position, based at Penn State's research farms and fields.
