Mass General Brigham is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room to join Nantucket Cottage Hospital. In this essential perioperative role, you will assess patients preoperatively, plan and implement care during surgical intervention, and evaluate outcomes. You will be responsible for ensuring safe, effective nursing practices and providing coverage for Central Sterile Supply as needed.
What You'll Do
- Demonstrate expertise in operating room procedures and function independently during surgical interventions.
- Establish and implement nursing standards of practice to ensure safe, effective, and efficient care.
- Interpret and comply with JCAHO, OSHA, and other federal and state regulatory standards.
- Conduct preoperative nursing assessments, develop care plans, and ensure patient records are complete.
- Identify and prioritize activities necessary to meet patient needs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of intraoperative measures, document findings, and reassess as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain procedural logs for the operating room and other units.
- Cover central supply responsibilities during staff shortages and as needed, ensuring supplies are available and replaced.
- Use proper aseptic and sterilization techniques.
- Assist in the orientation and supervision of other perioperative personnel.
- Oversee operating room and central supply operations in the absence of the Perioperative Services manager.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with Hospital policy and applicable laws.
What We're Looking For
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- At least two (2) years of prior perioperative experience.
- Current, valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire (AHA & ARC accepted).
- ACLS and PALS certifications required prior to orientation completion or within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of current nursing standards of practice.
- Ability to function unsupervised during on-call, other shifts, and weekend hours.
- Ability to tactfully communicate with internal and external customers and handle stressful or emergency situations.
- Physical ability to assist patients on and off equipment, move quickly in emergencies, and stand/walk approximately 90% of shift.
- Must be available to stay overnight if needed for patient transports and rotate to other units as assigned.
- Willingness to work additional shifts and be available in the case of a declared Hospital emergency.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- National certification in areas of expertise (e.g., CNOR, CEN, CCRN).
- CNOR certification is highly recommended within two (2) years of assuming the position.

This is an onsite position located at 57 Prospect Street.
