Jobgether is hiring a Packaging Engineer to optimize the packaging, shipping, and receiving of large, heavy industrial products. In this hands-on role, you will evaluate packaging processes, identify damage risks, and develop solutions to improve protection, labeling, and handling.
What You'll Do
- Conduct on-site packaging assessments for heavy equipment, dock levelers, and related components to evaluate current packaging, blocking, and strapping methods.
- Identify sources of damage during transit, including handling errors, material issues, or inadequate process controls.
- Review labeling practices and recommend improvements for durability, weather resistance, and legibility.
- Collaborate with Quality and Operations teams to gather process knowledge and ensure alignment with best practices.
- Develop clear, visual packaging SOPs, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for shipped products.
- Prepare and present prioritized improvement plans, highlighting quick wins, high-risk issues, and long-term changes.
- Support follow-up discussions and training to implement standardized packaging across multiple sites.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on packaging engineering experience in industrial, machinery, or heavy-equipment manufacturing.
- Experience developing protective packaging systems, including blocking, bracing, and load securement for large, non-crated items.
- Expertise in labeling materials and adhesives suitable for metal parts exposed to outdoor conditions.
- Strong skills in documenting packaging processes, SOPs, and inspection checklists.
- Ability to perform root-cause analysis and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently on-site, managing time and deliverables without daily supervision.
Nice to Have
- Experience with dock equipment, heavy machinery, automotive packaging, ERP or PLM systems, sustainability practices, and operator training materials.
