Role Overview
This position manages first-party property claims of moderate severity and complexity, ensuring thorough investigation, accurate evaluation, and fair resolution. Working remotely, you'll be responsible for on-site inspections, damage assessment, coverage analysis, and settlement negotiations, all while adhering to regulatory and internal quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections to document property damage, including taking photos, preparing estimates, and determining scope of loss
- Review legal documents such as leases, contracts, and by-laws to assess claim validity and coverage
- Calculate business interruption losses and establish accurate claim and expense reserves
- Use estimation tools like Xactimate to evaluate building and contents damage
- Negotiate settlements within delegated authority and prepare formal correspondence, including denials and Reservations of Rights
- Collaborate with contractors, insured parties, and internal teams to resolve claims efficiently
- Maintain detailed claim files with accurate documentation and timely updates
- Identify claims requiring escalation to specialized units such as Investigations, Subrogation, or Major Case
- Support catastrophe response efforts, which may involve multi-day deployments outside your home region
- Perform physical inspections that may require climbing ladders, accessing rooftops, and entering confined spaces
- Assist across multiple lines of business as needed, including auto, workers compensation, and liability claims
- Participate in legal proceedings such as depositions, mediations, and trials when required
- Complete administrative tasks including time reporting, expense tracking, and rotational technical support duties
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with at least one year of outside property claims experience or successful completion of an approved training program. A valid driver’s license is mandatory. Preferred candidates hold a Bachelor’s Degree, have two or more years of field experience, advanced customer service and organizational skills, and proficiency with Xactimate. A valid passport is advantageous due to potential travel.
Work Environment
This role is fully remote but requires residency in or willingness to work from the Chicago metropolitan area, including nearby communities. You’ll operate primarily from home with mobile field work and may be asked to deploy during catastrophe events. Physical demands include carrying and climbing ladders weighing up to 49 pounds and accessing tight or elevated spaces.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $67,000 to $110,600 annually, with eligibility for performance-based incentive awards.
